So, after putting on half a kilo in one day (a moment on the lips, a life time on the hips!) I made sure I did a work out yesterday. My plan is to do an hour 5-6 times a week with at least 30-45 minutes of that as cardio....but to say I've been a bit lax with that over the last two weeks would be an understatement!
So, yesterday I was determined to train. I spent the morning with Abbey at dance class followed by housework followed by an afternoon of trapsing around the shops looking for a suit for the other half. By the time we got back from that - the last thing I felt like was training! BUT, off I went. The session wasn't my best - my leg and back still being sore from my session with Dale on Thursday. I got nowhere near my top speed on the treadmill. Of course, pushing myself past my limits most likely didn't help either!
I had this bright idea that, since I couldn't walk fast, I'd try some interval training of the running variety instead... ah-huh. Stupidity!!!! It hurt like buggery! But did I stop? Noooooooo - that would have been sensible! It got to a point where I couldn't even walk on it. Note to self: You are not super human! I managed a grand total of 15 minutes before the pain kicked me off the treadmill. A short 2 min break and the taunting of the treadmill was too much:
"Weakling!"
"I kicked your sorry ass!"
"Looooooser"
"PA-THET-IC!"
So I did was any normal person would do... I got back on! I pushed for another 10 min of walking and then got off - conceding that perhaps this wasn't my best move. I then spent another 30 min doing resistance training (squats, bicep curls, lateral lifts, push ups) and core work (The plank, Bird Dog) before having a really good stretch. Surprisingly, I wasn't too sore or walking too abnormally when I returned to the land of the living (my family). In fact, no one even noticed how sore I was! SCORE! No lecture! AND I burnt a brilliant 550 calories in that hour - considering it was by far my worst session in months, that's a decent result!
I'm amazed that this morning I am not more sore than I currently am. My hips are sore and I'm guarding myself a little more than normal when I bend and move...but I'm not super sore. The pain score (if I had to give one) is around 2/10... I was honestly expecting to be around 6 or 7 this morning. I'll do another big stretch session very shortly before heading off on a family bike ride. I had been super excited about getting back on the bike and taking our wee one with us (we've had to buy an attachment for the bikes so we can tow her along as she seems to be struggling with how to ride a bike!); but today is a gorgeous gorgeous sunny day (after weeks of bleak Winter weather!) and so I am imagining that the bike trails are going to be teeming with families out for some sun and fresh air! I'm not such a huge fan of crowds - especially when I'm cycling as I have this severe inability to fight gravity and worry I'll knock some poor kid or Grandmother into the bushes! Still, we will be heading off very soon! Excited!!!!!!!!
Until next time...
