Well, it was almost a disaster! Everything started well with the wee one being super excited to go for a ride... important to note here that she is normally reluctant to get on her bike...pedal on her own...ride down hills...ride up hills...really she's just anti bike full stop!
But this morning she was EXCITED! HOORAY! We get on the bikes and off we go - she even pedaled the whole time! Not that it would have mattered as we had her bike connected to hubby's so he was essentially towing her.
So all was going swimmingly until about half way. And then a family (two adults and two teenage girls) were blocking the path...right around a bend so you had no pre-warning. We tried to avoid them and yelled for them to look out...but hubby ended up fish tailing and both he AND Abbey collided with the adult male. Who was on his phone. And couldn't have cared less. In the 10 min we were soothing Abbey and checking over our equipment, he didn't once get off his phone let alone ask if we were ok! No one offered an apology to us although we apologised for hitting them (although not really our fault) or asked if we were ok or needed help. I couldn't believe it! Then as they walked off (yes, WALKED OFF!) whilst we were fixing Abbey's bike, the guy hurled abuse at me! OH. MY. GOD! If Abbey had not been there, he would have copped an earful out of me!
Luckily Abbey was happy to keep riding. The problem was that her bike no longer wished to ride! The bloody connector thing between the two bikes had been damaged. Lucky hubby had bought a few tools with us in case something happened and he was able to fix it. And off we rode.
The whole ride was rather fun...for someone who isn't a fan of riding! It wasn't overly strenuous though - I didn't feel fatigued during the ride...not sure if that is a good thing or not! We purposely chose a flat track for Abbey's first ride. But the downside of that is it wasn't much of a challenge. I had envisaged burning 3-400 calories... I burnt 370 in 58 minutes. I'm hoping that next time we can chose a harder track and burn more calories.
When I got home, I was feeling it in my legs...nothing a good stretch couldn't fix!
SO, the ride was a success! What to do tomorrow?...
